Hello, my name is Aquinas and I'd like to welcome you to this site. I, like 25 million
other Americans, suffer from Depression. I have been diagnosed with Severe Major Depressive
Disorder and struggle with it every day. When I found out a few weeks ago that this
was what was wrong with me, I went searching on the Internet for information so I could make
an informed decision as to what I should do and how I could cope. My full story will be in the
Personal Stories section sometime very soon. But in short, I've created
this page to try and put the best resources I could find all in one place so maybe
I can help others who are struggling with this disease.
National Institute of Mental Health
This is a great site for information on depression and other mental illnesses. Lots
of online resources as well as addresses to order free pamphlets about mental illness.
This area contains links to stories and personal homepages of people
who want to share their struggles with depression. If you wish to submit a story or
link to your personal story or homepage, please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The newsgroup alt.support.depression, affectionately known as ASD by those of us who
frequent it, is a wonderful place to go for support and advice from those people
who are going through depression also. I recommend lurking (that's just reading) posts
for awhile to get used the flavor of the group, then jump in whenever you feel
comfortable. There are two sub-newsgroups to ASD.
